Chairwoman Rosenworcel Appoints WIA’s EVP Tim House to the FCC’s Telecommunications Interagency Working Group

January 18, 2022 by

ARLINGTON, Va. – WIA is pleased to announce that our Executive Vice President, Tim House, has been appointed to the FCC’s Telecommunications Interagency Working Group (Working Group) by Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel. The Working Group, created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and comprised of representatives appointed by the FCC, Department of Labor, Department of Commerce, and the Department of Education, is tasked with preparing a report to provide Congress with recommendations on how to address the workforce needs of the telecommunications industry by no later than January 14, 2023.

As WIA’s representative on the Working Group, Tim will bring a depth of knowledge and experience in telecommunications workforce issues as the leader of WIA’s workforce development initiatives. Since joining the organization in 2007, he has spearheaded WIA’s evolution as the industry leader in workforce development, including the sponsorship of the Telecommunications Industry Registered Apprenticeship Program (TIRAP), the first and premier registered apprenticeship program in the industry, and the Telecommunication Education Center (TEC), an innovative program which brings together academia and subject matter experts to develop and deliver curricula, improve education, quality of work, and safety within the industry. TIRAP now boasts twelve DOL-recognized occupations and a growing pool of sixty-four employer partners nationwide, and the rapidly-growing TEC has a catalog of more than 30 telecom-related courses.

“I am honored by Chairwoman Rosenworcel’s appointment,” said House. “With the infrastructure bill’s historic investments in broadband access and expansion, now is a crucial time to also invest in the skilled workforce we desperately need to close the digital divide and ensure the U.S. wins the race to 5G. I look forward to working with my fellow appointees to provide Congress the insights necessary to build a strong telecommunications workforce by improving training and safety.”

WIA also congratulates member Leticia Latino van Splunteren, CEO of Neptuno USA, on her well-deserved appointment to the Working Group.
