Ohio County to Seek Bids on Razing and Building Radio Tower

September 22, 2022 by

A 140-foot radio tower that has served Findlay, OH since 1982, is scheduled to come down next year. As The Courier reports, in its place will be a new 300-foot tower. Hancock County officials have said that they will be seeking price quotes in the upcoming months from firms interested in constructing the new tower.

The site selected for the project will place the tower behind the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, on County Road 140. It is estimated that constructing the 300-foot tower could cost Hancock County roughly $900,000.

Additionally, consultant Jeff Riggs, sales and engineering professional for Radio Hospital, advised officials that it will cost roughly $32,000 to remove the existing tower. A stress fracture and general wear and tear demand that the tower be destroyed rather than repurposed.

Riggs noted that he believes that Hancock County will be able to generate revenue by leasing tower space to telecommunications providers. The extra height of the new tower should allow it to reach a wider audience than its predecessor.
