WIA Applauds IMPACT Act

March 26, 2021 by

ARLINGTON, Va. – WIA applauds the introduction of the “Improving Minority Participation and Careers in Telecommunications Act” or the “IMPACT Act” introduced today by Sens. Wicker, Sinema, and Tim Scott. This legislation provides grants to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU), with which WIA is partnering through its Telecommunications Industry Registered Apprenticeship Program, for broadband workforce training.

“WIA applauds the introduction of the Improving Minority Participants and Careers in Telecommunications Act by Senators Wicker, Sinema, and Scott. This bill will provide opportunities for underrepresented Americans to learn skills that will lead to employment in the booming telecommunications industry,” said WIA President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “As we build the wireless workforce of the future, the IMPACT Act will help to ensure inclusivity and diversity, while also helping to meet demand for skilled telecommunications workers. WIA thanks Senators Wicker, Sinema, and Scott for their leadership on this timely issue.”
