WIA Congratulates Labor Secretary Walsh

March 22, 2021 by

ARLINGTON, Va. – WIA congratulates Secretary Walsh on his confirmation as Secretary of Labor today.

“WIA congratulates Secretary Walsh on his confirmation as Secretary of Labor. We were thrilled that during his confirmation, Secretary Walsh underscored DOL’s partnership with WIA to foster registered apprenticeships in developing the wireless workforce of the future,” said WIA President and CEO Jonathan Adelstein. “Workforce training through registered apprenticeship is a solution telecom employers are seeking to recruit, train, and retain skilled workers as the U.S. looks to rebuild its economy. WIA and the wireless industry looks forward to working with Secretary Walsh to scale up registered apprenticeship to help the U.S. win the race to 5G.”

During Secretary Walsh’s confirmation proceedings, he noted, “The Department has worked closely with the telecommunications and wireless industry for a number of years. DOL has also recently funded [WIA] as an apprenticeship industry intermediary as well as a grantee. DOL looks forward to continuing its partnership with WIA and others in the industry to help scale up these programs to support 5G deployment.”
